WHAT'S IN A
NAME?
As far as I can tell, I am both form and formless, clay and water. Beyond philosophical meanderings, my name is Carl Lindgren and I am standing on the shoulders of my ancestors as a steward of revitalizing archaic and vernacular ways of building, plastering, and connecting my body, heart, and mind. My intention is to be in service to stewarding the transition to living in right relationship with each other, our Mother, and the Great Cosmos.

Carl Oskar Lindgren was my Great-Great Grandfather, who practiced the art of ceramics and plastering, to whom I feel a deep, innate connection with. In honoring him and all of our artistic and embodied ancestors, I was compelled to reawaken their ways of building and have been learning the trades for the past few years.

2020 // FARM CREW // 63rd STREET FARM
Tended to a 60 acre small-scale, high-yield, permaculture based farm with a 350-person CSA, including all aspects of cultivation from planting to harvesting, 125 chicken harvest every 3 weeks, and experiential, slow-food based CSA pickups with oven-fired pizza and other farm-fresh food.

2020 // PARTICIPANT // RISING EARTH IMMERSION PROGRAM @ ECO INSTITUTE AT SANCTUARY FARM
An immersive program through a decolonial lens for social and ecological healing, rooted in three realms of thought: Spiritual Ecology, Community Resilience, and Applied Permaculture. Permaculture Design Foundations Certified. Came back to repair lime plaster in a converted horse barn.

2021 // APPRENTICE // GREG ALLEN OF THE MUD DAUBER SCHOOL OF NATURAL BUILDING
Learned the ways of cob, straw bale, light straw-clay, clay and lime plasters, trenches and foundations, traditional round wood timber framing, and conventional stick framing.

2022 // PLASTERER // CRANMORE MEADOWS TINY HOME COMMUNITY
Solo plaster on cob/straw bale/light straw-clay cottage and bathhouse.

2022 // DESIGN/BUILD & GRAPHIC DESIGN // LIVING WELL ECO VILLAGE ​& DEEP RIVER FOLK SCHOOL
Design/build a flagstone pathway, chicken coop, storage shed, porch roof and various other carpentry projects.
Email marketing and social media consultation and creation for the Deep River Folk School.

Shed design/build utilizing wood from a local mill and emulating the surrounding ecosystem.

2023 // PARTICIPANT // YESTERMORROW'S NATURAL BUILDING CERTIFICATION PROGRAM
7-week immersive program building a straw bale casita from foundation to roof. Rubble trench and lavacrete foundation, compressed straw bale and light straw-clay wall system, earthen interior floor, clay and lime interior and exterior plasters, blown-in wool insulation, and clay plaster murals.

2023 // PLASTERER // A FALL IN KINGSTON, NM
Led plastering interior of a straw bale cottage intended for a natural building/permaculture education space.
Solo plastered an old adobe jailhouse with clay plaster and lime washed a stucco-sided cottage.

2023 // JAPANESE PLASTERING WORKSHOP AT THE CANELO PROJECT TAUGHT BY KYLE HOLZHUETER
Traditional Japanese clay and lime plastering techniques and mixtures. We plastered the exterior of a large adobe and timber-framed barn with compressed Shikkui plaster (lime, hemp fiber, seaweed glue sealed with soap). Other techniques learned included bamboo lath, clay walling, and Otsu plaster (lime, clay, toilet paper).

Part of crew that built a water harvesting system feeding lavacrete/adobe raised beds at the Food Conspiracy Food Co-op and 2 homes for the Tohono Oʼodham Nation.
Facilitated embodiment and plaster workshops.
Tended to aquaponics system.
Designed and lead a land stewardship project consisting of raised pathways, trenches, basins, and stonework to mitigate flooding and collect the rain from the monsoon season.
